A Travel in Time

What was Swedish society like in the 19th century? Society was changing rapidly when Vänersborg's museum was built in 1885. In the exhibition A Travel in Time you are given an insight into this era of change, another epoch that is not so far from our own. You can learn about areas as diverse as family life, housing, school, work, hygiene, health and even people’s love lives. There is a section about communications, from postal stagecoaches and canal boats to railways, telegraphs and telephones. Follow local newspaper articles and advertisements over an entire year on the billboard. The exhibition's discovery cabinet will provide you with more in-depth information about the objects and inventions of the era for you to immerse yourself in.
