Lynx

The lynx is the largest feline in Europe. It is recognized by its long legs, its short tail and the tufts on its ears. It is an extremely skilful hunter and relies heavily on its sharp vision. However, it is very rarely seen by others. Its diet consists mostly of deer but it also hunts small prey such as hare and other rodents.

When two lynx meet, to a great extent they communicate through their body language. How they carry their tails and how the ears are positioned reveal a lot to other lynx, even from a long distance. Unfortunately, the lynx in the Nordic Animal exhibit has lost both tufts on its ears.

In the beginning of the 20th century, lynx were nearly eradicated, yet, now it can be found all over the Swedish mainland. However, it is still quite rare in the areas south of Dalsland.
