The red fox can be found in the arctic, in the forest, on the country side and even in large cities. There are plenty of foxes all around Europe, except on Iceland. Because of its ability to learn and adapt itself to so many different environments as well as different types of food, it has become a very successful predator. The fox will eat almost anything and it can readily change its eating habits. No wonder that the red fox often have been perceived as very clever and cunning.

The colour of the fox’s fur varies from pale red to yellow to deep red brown with darker streaks. The thick winter fur is remarkable whilst the summer coating is rather thin. During Medieval times in Sweden, fox fur was considered very valuable and it was one of the most important products used to export.

During the breeding period one can be surprised by the very varied cries and calls from the fox, sometimes its cries can even be mistaken for a crying baby. Foxes live in pairs together with their juveniles in dens or burrows. Often a fox pair can move in to an abandoned badgers burrow.
