Visit by the Chancellor
In April 1639, one of Europe's most powerful men, Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna, came with his entourage on a journey through Västergötland to Brätte, where he stayed for two days. The town threw a party for the distinguished guest at the home of Mayor Erik Hansson. A whole ox was roasted and copious amounts of wine and beer were served.
The people of Brätte were then given the opportunity to directly express their desire to move the town to Oxenstierna. The Chancellor, feverish, rode out to Huvudnäset the next day and saw that the location would be well chosen for building a town with military fortifications, a harbor and good soil. This resulted in the decision two years later to buy out Huvudnäs farm and begin plans for the relocation of Brätte.
