Karin with Family

One of the families that moved to Brätte, probably to the so-called Ormegården, from Nya Lödöse in 1612 was the merchant Hans Börjessons. In Brätte he became a councilman and mayor and as a merchant he was often out on trips. He had a wife and at least one child, his son Börje Hansson. Hans' niece Karin Clausdotter also came to Brätte. Karin was born out of wedlock and her parents may have been Åsa Börjesdotter and Klaus Persson in Nya Lödöse. Perhaps Åsa also moved to Brätte. In 1599, Åsa, in Nya Lödöse, had been accused but not convicted of murdering her newborn child.

Through Hans Börjesson, the family had a strong position in Brätte. But in 1631 something happened between Karin and her cousin Börje that shook the family…
