Brätte after 1644
Although Vänersborg received city privileges on 1 February 1644, not all residents had moved from Brätte by then. In the same year, Vänersborg was burned by Danish forces, which contributed to the delay. To speed up the Brätte residents, beer sales were banned in Brätte in 1645. Two years later, those who had not moved by then were threatened with fines. At the same time, the use of the port in Brätte was banned. However, ships continued to load and unload there until the 1670s, when the last boathouses were taken down and moved to a new port at Korseberg, a few hundred meters north.
By this time, Brätte had become the execution site for Vänersborg with a gallows on Grytåsberget. Despite this, a few people lived there for another couple of decades.
