The Principal and the Children

Fyra pojkar från dövskolan.

It was an exciting day in May 1914 for the students from the school for the deaf in Vänersborg who were to follow their principal Fredrik Nordin to Brätte. Nordin wanted the students to help him collect finds for an archaeological survey at the site. The student Karl Edvard Augustsson wrote in the school newspaper: “In a field we found pieces of clay vessels, glass, pipes, etc. I found a stone sink..”.

During the following year, Nordin carried out several excavations at Brätte. The finds were taken to the Vänersborg Museum and in 1920 these finds were exhibited for the first time and a memorial stone was erected at the excavation site. Two years later, the first popular science book about Brätte was published. The lost city had been rediscovered.
